Lastly I would recommend a gratuity for the

2nd. Assistant Auditor who has had to combine the two offices of

1st. and 2nd. Assistant into one. It would be useless for me to

attempt in this letter to write of the multitudinous duties of these two offices during the last twelve months, only the Hon. Treasurer and myself are in a position to realize the amount of work which has been done. The Assistant Auditor in addition to

these duties has performed the duties of Local Auditor last Summer without any extra remuneration. I would therefore recommend a gratuity of 860 per mensem which is about 33% less than a third class Cadet's duty pay. I should like to recomend a larger amount but feel that under the circumstances if His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government were willing to take the advice of the Hon. Treasurer he might suggest an amount equal to a third class duty pay during this acting period. I trust that His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government will give this matter his favourable consideration as har. Brayn's lapsing half-pay will amount to £157.10.0 on the 23rd. Lay, 1912.
